
Clean Car Tips
Vehicle Emission Testing is not the only way to make your car clean air friendly. Below are tips to help Treasure the Valley’s Air:
Get an emissions test
- A well-maintained car pollutes less and gets more miles to the gallon
Combine errands
- Plan to get week’s errands done in one or two days
- Try to permanently cut out all unnecessary car trips
Refuel when it’s cool
- On hot summer days, hold off refueling your car until after 6 p.m.
- This will keep smog forming vapors out of the air during the heat of the day when ozone formation occurs
No topping off
- Stop at the first click when the pump shuts off
- Topping off your tank releases additional smog-forming vapors
Click it
- Tighten your gas cap after filling up
- Up to 30 gallons of gas evaporates from a car’s tank each year due to a loose gas cap
- E very 4,000 leaky gas caps contribute one ton of pollution to our air
Don’t Idle
- If you think you’ll be sitting in the same spot for more than 30-seconds, turn off the engine
- Idling your vehicle wastes gas, pollutes the air, and can damage your engine components.
